Public Evening Talk

Thursday, 11 September 2025, 19:00 - 20:00, ZHG011

Matthias Maurer, European Astronaut Center, Cologne, Germany
is speaking about

"Vorbereitung auf die nächsten Mondmissionen"

Abstract:
Since the year 2000 astronauts fly to the International Space Station to perform scientific experiments in weightlessness. While the ISS programme is coming to an end and new concepts for future space stations in low earth orbit (400 km above earth) are being discussed, also a new era of missions to the moon are being prepared. ESA Astronaut Matthias will introduce the audience to these plans to return humans to the surface of the Moon: Planetary surface missions require different technologies and a different training for astronauts, e.g. geological training. Their tools and equipment also needs to be modified compared to flights to the International Space Station. Recent advances in technologies such as AI and Quantum technologies will also enable such future space flight missions.

The talk will be held in German!
