Theatre: "Und der Alte würfelt doch!"
Thursday, 11 September 2025, 20:00 - 21:30
As part of the accompanying programme of the conference, the piece "Und der Alte würfelt doch!" is performed as a stage reading (in German) at the Deutsche Theater in Göttingen. The performance celebrates a pivotal moment in scientific history: In 1925, groundbreaking ideas reshaped the understanding of the natural world and marked the beginning of a revolution in physics.
What exactly happened here 100 years ago? The classical, deterministic conception of nature that had dominated science for centuries collapsed as ideas of uncertainty, superposition, and probability began to emerge. Replacing strict causal relationships, quantum mechanics introduced a new era, characterized by ambiguity and possibilities. Was this the dawn of an "Age of Uncertainty"?
Through a captivating reading of letters and autobiographical writings, accompanied by expert explanations and live experiments, a glimpse into the profound transformations is offered, a transformation which went well beyond science with a lasting impact on society. The evening will highlight selected individuals responsible for these revolutionary insights in Göttingen.
This event is organised by Deutsche Theater in collaboration with the Faculty of Physics, University of Göttingen. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to explore the birth of quantum mechanics and the remarkable individuals who made it possible!
